1.     AUDITS AND PHONE-IN PRESCRIPTIONS

A.  New Jersey:

It has been brought to our attention that some auditors are attempting to recoup the full amount of computer generated Rx's and their refills.  They are doing this on the basis that by definition a phone order must be "reduced to writing".  The NJ State Board of Pharmacy has changed the language in this regulation to include "any expression by letters, numbers, or characters, including handwriting, printing, typewriting, lasered, electronic or other tangible form of recording."  Of course you must sign the script.

This new regulation has not been written yet, but is NJ Policy

A copy of NJ Board of Pharmacy minutes for the meeting that ruled on this issue is available on their website and can be printed to offset any audit claims http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/pharm/minutes/pharm622.htm

B.  New York:

Also, according to Lawrence Mokhiber of the New York Board of Pharmacy, computer-generated prescriptions are valid and are preferred as they are trying to completely eliminate hand-written oral prescriptions.

2.  INNOVIANT OXYCODONE ER REIMBURSEMENT

Innoviant has increased the MAC reimbursement on Oxycodone ER 80mg.  The new price took effect 2/24/07 and will be backdated to February 1, 2007.  If you filled any claims for this medication, you may reverse and resubmit for proper payment.

We were also informed that Innoviant has increased the MAC price on many Oxycodone ER NDC numbers.  If you filled other strengths of this product, you might want to check their reimbursements as well.  Those increases went into effect 2/7/07.

3. NPI REMINDER

If you have not already registered your NPI with NCPDP, please do so immediately to ensure you don’t experience PBM/PDP payment delays.  Please fax a copy of your confirmation to NCPDP’s at (480) 767-1043.

Also, if you are enrolled with a Managed Care Network (such as EPN or Third Party Station) please check with them to make sure they have done this on your behalf.
