1.  SHBP Mandatory Mail Order RX Proposal Postponed until 8/22/2006

Based on the outcry of opposition by public employee unions, pharmacy owner groups and you, the State Health Benefits Commission’s (SHBC) has postponed today’s special meeting to rush through a mandatory Rx mail order requirement for the State Health Benefits Plan until Tuesday, August 22nd.

Thanks to all who contacted the Governor’s Office asking for the delay and voicing your objections.  But our work isn’t done yet; you still need to keep the pressure on the Administration to stop this change from ever happening.

Between now and August 22nd, call [(609) 292-6000], or fax [(609) 292-3454] the Governor’s Office to tell them NO to a mandatory state benefits mail order Rx plan and explain that it will:

·        devastate New Jersey’s retail pharmacy industry;

·        not save the State any money;

·        deny consumers choice for prescription care delivery options, and

·        only benefit out-of-state mail order prescription companies.

IPA will continue to work with all other allied groups to convince the Administration that this policy proposal is ill-advised.

2.  State Pharmacy Board Proposes Regulating Pharmacy Technicians

This week, the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy proposed the registration of pharmacy technicians and a host of other new regulatory requirements on pharmacy technicians (i.e. minimum age, education, language proficiency, training and supervision requirements).

The comment deadline for this regulatory proposal is October 6th.  IPA’s Board of Directors will develop comments objecting to this regulatory proposal.

If you have any questions, or would like a copy of this proposed regulation, please contact John Covello at 800-575-2667.
